Bridging the Gap
Law school faculty know better than anyone that today’s law students are overwhelmed. Law students are struggling, and it is not due to a lack of effort. With law students being more diverse than ever, academic support services should reflect the challenges today’s law students face. Despite the best of intentions, there is often a disconnect between law school faculty and the law students they serve. Our academic support services help to fill this gap by educating law school faculty and providing the individualized academic support students need. We offer private tutoring, diversity training, workshops, and more.
About Our Founder
Mahliya Montgomery founded Tutor In Law in 2022 with the intention of helping to level the playing field for non-traditional law students. As a woman of color and recent law school graduate, she understands the specific challenges faced by today’s law students, particularly first-generation law students, women, persons of color, and single parents. Through her tutoring services, Mahliya has been supporting law students from diverse backgrounds for the last five years. An advocate for mental health, she believes in serving law students holistically and prioritizes teaching law students the foundational legal skills they need for law school and beyond. In addition to tutoring law students, Mahliya routinely works with law schools to better serve their students through curated academic support services and diversity trainings. As an adjunct professor, tutor, and recent law school graduate, Mahliya is in the unique position to understand the perspectives of both law school faculty and their students.
Let’s Collaborate
Individualized Academic Support
Between first years, students on academic probation, and bar prep, law schools are struggling to give students the one-on-one attention they need. Support your students who need it the most with tutoring sessions throughout the semester.
Diversity Training
Bridge the gap by educating faculty on the realities of non-traditional law students. From the perspective of a fellow law professor and recent graduate, our diversity training covers techniques to support students, fosters understanding, and encourages much-needed dialogue.
Foundational Skills Workshop
Designed with non-traditional law students in mind, but a resource for all, this workshop delivers valuable insight on how to approach law school. Students learn how to think critically, manage their time, prepare for and write exams, and find balance.
Curated Services
We offer a wide-range of services including lectures, outlines, and even a Pre-Law Course. Our offerings address the challenges of non-traditional law students and cover all bar-tested courses. We work with law schools to curate academic support services that fit within their infrastructure.
Our Offerings
Tutoring
We offer private and group tutoring. Students can use sessions to develop skills, learn the law, go over an essay, or get personalized advice.
Course Materials and Guides
Our course materials include the outline and exam approaches for all bar-tested courses. Skill-building guides teach skills like outlining, case briefing, and exam prep.
Pre-Law Course
Our one-of-a-kind Pre-Law Course prepares incoming first year students for law school. The course gives an overview of first-semester material and covers practice exams for Criminal Law, Contracts, and Torts.
