What Kind of Student Are You?

The Overachiever

You make all your law school outlines and do every case brief. Still, you buy every supplement you can get your hands on- just in case. Your classmates can count on you to know who will be called on next to brief.

Lost in the Sauce

You’re doing the briefs and paying attention in class, but can’t help but feel like you’re missing something and don’t even know where to start. You understand the law in theory, but struggle when its time to prepare for your law school exams.

The Multi-Tasker

You’re not lazy, you’re busy with the laundry list of tasks on your plate. You sneak in a case brief or two (or ten) when your boss isn’t looking. But there’s only so much time in the day. Something’s gotta give.

Meet Mahliya, Founder & Mother

A law professor, law tutor, and first-generation law student, Mahliya is in a unique position to serve today’s law students.

Mahliya is an adjunct professor at Mitchell Hamline School of Law and Monterey College of Law. She is also a professor at Sacramento State University, teaching Domestic Violence and Crime. She has been tutoring law students for the past five years, working exclusively with non-traditional law students. In addition to tutoring law students individually, she works with law schools to support their students by hosting workshops, providing tutoring services, and helping to curate academic support programs. She is passionate about leveling the playing field for law students from non-traditional backgrounds by supporting them holistically and bridging the gap between law schools and law students.

During her private sessions, she works with students to identify problem areas, build skills, and create strategies for success. When working with students, mental health is always a priority. Her goal is to provide students with foundational skills that they can apply to all future law school courses and the bar.

Mahliya graduated magna cum laude from Lincoln Law School of Sacramento in 2020. Being a first-generation law student and single mother, attending law school presented unique challenges that she had to overcome. She now draws upon these experiences when working with her students. While in law school, she worked part-time as a law clerk and tutored her fellow students. Mahliya was selected as a reviewer in Lincoln’s Friday Night Review program when the program was piloted in 2018 and was asked to return every year until graduating. She received numerous scholarships and awards while in law school, including being on the dean’s list.
